VCD: Denotes one CD-Standard for storing video data. Corresponding films with a Resolution of 352x288 pixel (PAL) or 352 x 288 pixels (NTSC) and 25 frames per second in MPEG-1 Codec recorded. Also the Ton (exclusively stereo) is called MPEG-1 Layer 2 at a fixed bitrate of 224 kbit/s.

The relatively high compression allows a maximum playing time of approx. 79 minutes and offers a quality that is roughly on the level of a conventional VHS cassette. The compression process also eliminates blurring and Artifacts develop. Despite the relatively poor quality, many still offer today DVD- And Blu-Ray Disc player to support the VCD.
