3/2 pull down

3/2 pull down: Process involved in transferring a film NTSC-Video (see NTSC) takes place. Movies around the world usually have 24 frames per second (fps), NTSC works at 30 fps, PAL with 25 fps. With NTSC, two or three fields are generated alternately from each cinema picture.

The result is still slightly slowed down and then produces the approximately

60 fields of the NTSC standard. This creates movement errors in the video version, which, however, can only be recognized by the "trained eye". With PAL, the process is more of a 2/2 pull-down, because here the film is sped up by about 4%, so that it runs at 25 frames instead of 24 frames. This shortens the feature film in the video version by about five minutes (depending on the length of the feature film).
