PAL: The Phase-Alternating line method is a method for color transmission in analogue television. It was developed to eliminate the hue errors in the NTSC (see NTSC) procedure to fix. Fundamental to the process is the idea that two consecutive image lines should show more similarities than differences because images consist of areas.

Properties of PAL are 720 horizontal and 576 vertical picture lines. Compared to the new one image format Full-HD with 1920 horizontal and 1080 vertical lines. The picture format is 4:3 for PAL and 16:9 for HD.
