NTSC

NTSC: NTSC stands for National Television System Committee and is the US equivalent of the European one image format PAL (see PAL). This institution, which established the first color transmission signal for television signals, is common across much of America. Its characteristics are 525 lines (of which only 480 are visible) and 60 Hz refresh rate. Many American DVDs are therefore in NTSC format - and not in PAL format.
