pulldown

pulldown: The process of "pulldown" is often used when transferring a motion picture film to the NTSC format used. This step is necessary because cinema films are shot worldwide at a uniform rate of 24 frames per second. However, the American NTSC works with a refresh rate of 60 Hz in the half-frame process. In particular, the so-called 3:2 pulldown is used, in which 2 or 3 fields are alternately generated from a cinema image. This "picking apart" creates exactly the desired 60 fields per second.
