PAL-60 or 525

PAL-60 or 525: Denotes a pseudoPAL or "NTSC Playback on PAL TV”. This mixed form of video playback or TV transmission uses the NTSC refresh rate (60 Hz) and number of lines (525, of which 480 are visible). However, the color subcarrier signal is transmitted at the PAL frequency, namely at 4,43 MHz. PAL-60 makes sense if NTSC sources are to be played back, but the technical effort involved in converting the color subcarrier signal is to be saved.

Not to be confused with NTSC 4.43. PAL-60 uses the PAL color system, NTSC 4.43 uses the NTSC color system.
