You should pay attention to this when buying a TV wall mount

The good old sideboard for the TV is out. More and more people prefer the inconspicuous and space-saving variant: the TV wall mount. It looks better, protects the TV from falling over and offers the possibility to adjust the TV in any situation. We tell you what you should look out for when buying a TV wall mount.

The VESA standard

Every modern flat screen TV now has four threaded holes on the back for attachment to a TV wall bracket. The Video Electronics Standards Association has set a standard for this, which defines the spacing of the threaded holes. This greatly simplifies the search for the right TV wall mount.

This standard is abbreviated as FDMI, which derives from Flat Display Mounting Interface. The prescribed hole spacing depends on the maximum permissible weight. The larger and heavier the TV, the greater the distance between the holes for the TV wall bracket.

The following distances are prescribed: 75, 100, 200, 300, 400, 600 or 800 millimeters.

You should consider this before buying:

First measure the hole spacing, both horizontally and vertically. You should also know how much your flat screen TV weighs and what the screen size is.

There are the following types of TV wall mounts:

The rigid TV wall mount

The TV is attached directly to the bracket on the wall, like a picture frame. The wall bracket cannot be moved.

The enviable TV wall mount

The television also hangs quite close to the wall here, but can be tilted up or down. This feature is particularly useful when the TV is mounted fairly high on the wall for convenience or space reasons.

The swiveling TV wall bracket

This type of mount usually has a joint, which allows the TV to be aligned further to the right or left. It doesn't have to hang parallel to the wall, but can also be adjusted at an angle to the respective side if you don't always watch TV from the same place. Swivel wall mounts also offer the option of bringing the TV further forward so that you sit closer to the screen.

The electronic TV wall mount

Electronic wall brackets are particularly practical. These can be conveniently adjusted by remote control. So you can adjust your TV to the perfect position right from the sofa.

Helpful tips for the position of the TV wall mount

When connecting, you should definitely pay attention to the lighting conditions. Reflections from lamps or windows should be avoided as far as possible, so the TV should not be placed across from a window.

The distance between the TV set and the viewer should be around three times the size of the screen diagonal. This way the picture comes into its own and the eyes are protected.

A question that almost everyone asks when installing the TV wall mount is the height. An almost straight view of the TV set should be possible. To find out the right height, you can simply sit comfortably on your sofa. The bottom edge of the screen should then be placed at about eye level. This is usually at a height of about one meter. If there is a large distance between the viewer and the television, the device can also be placed a little higher.
