S / PDIF: Sony/Philips digital interface. Designates the standard protocol for the transmission of digital data, e.g. B. Dolby Digital (see Dolby Digital) within a consumer electronics device. Two types of cable are normally used for transmission: either a 75-Ohm-Coaxial cable (see coaxial line) for electrical transmission or a Toslink-Cable (see Toslink) for optical transmission.
