Pan&Scan

Pan&Scan: Refers to one of the techniques used to transfer a widescreen film to a 4:3 format. The 4:3 format is laid over the film like a frame and shifted according to the main scenes in the film. With 4:3 screens, the black bars at the top and bottom are completely avoided and the Resolution (see resolution) is higher. However, a lot of image content is lost to the right and left of the main scenes.
