MUSE Photo Studio: Multiple Sub-Nyquist Sampling Encoding. Designates a television standard for Japanese analog HDTV-Transfers. After the MUSE process, HDTV programs are still transmitted via satellite. A terrestrial broadcast was also demonstrated, but did not gain any market significance. MUSE was also used on laserdiscs to store HD content, but failed to catch on and was withdrawn from the market in 1997.
