LCOS

LCOS: Liquid Crystal On Silicon. Designates a type of display in which a silicon film is coated with liquid crystals, which are protected by a pane of glass. All of the lines needed to control and polarize the crystals are located behind the liquid crystal layer.

Since the light beam is reflected on the chip and not as is the case with the LCD–Technology has to pass through, the cables have no influence on the picture quality. In addition, the border areas between the individual pixels are kept small, which ensures higher resolutions. LCoS attracts particular attention with projectors.

Here, the light from the lamp is first reflected by a mirror, from where it reaches the display chip, where the image is reflected again. The image then reaches the screen through lens and mirror systems. Depending on the area of application, a distinction is made between 1-chip and 3-chip solutions.
