Dithering

Dithering: Refers to a tool used in digital imaging to compensate for missing colors, or at least make them less obvious. For example, if you have a color gradient in the original image that extends from white to gray to black, the gray area could be removed when the image is compressed. The dithering now cleverly distributes black and white pixels in the interface so that the missing gray color is created as a mixture for the viewer.
