CLV: "Constant Linear Velocity" refers to a process for writing to and reading from optical and magnetic data carriers with a constant linear velocity. The Data rate always remains the same with this method, but this also means that in the outer areas of a disc the medium must be rotated more slowly in order to maintain a constant data rate.
