V disc: During the Second World War, V-Disc, an abbreviation for "Victory Disc", was understood to mean discs that contained popular light music (such as hits, dance music, light jazz) and were sent to the GIs from home as "tornister editions" for moral strengthening . During the union recording ban (August 1942 to November 1944) in the USA, V-Discs were the only authorized recordings and productions with instrumental musicians.
