skating power: Skating occurs with radial tonearms because friction between the record groove and the stylus creates a force that cannot be fully absorbed by the tonearm bearing due to the offset (i.e. the angling pointing towards the center of the record) of the tonearm/cartridge. The skating force acts towards the center of the board.
This is perhaps not very clear at first glance, some spontaneously suspect a centrifugal force that should have an effect on the outside. The skating force is not a centrifugal force! The size of the skating force depends on the friction that occurs, and thus on the tracking force, the groove speed and the shape of the needle.
