phase plug: Denotes a spherical or cone-shaped "nose" in the center of a woofer or midrange unit of a loudspeaker. This design feature is supposed to frequency response (see frequency response) linearized and the propagation of the higher frequencies improved. This component is often made of metal and thus has the side effect of dissipating heat from the loudspeaker's magnetic system.
