overdrive: With analog devices: Exceeding the maximum permissible level with the result that an increasing distortion factor (see distortion factor) is clearly perceptible. At Full scale (see full scale) is the maximum to be processed level reached and there is just no distortion (no perceptible distortion factor). With modern devices clipping (see Clipping) of the signal (see Signal) avoided.
