MADI

MADI: Denotes a digital studio sound format. MADI stands for Multi Channel Audio Digital Interface and is used to connect digital multi-track machines with digital mixing consoles. A MADI transfer can consist of both optical and coaxial lines and contains 28 BEA/EBU audio signals. Any AES/EBUSignal is a pair of channels, so MADI can handle up to 56 mono channels in one cable. The signals are not compressed, but Per plywood transfer.

This results in an extremely efficient and loss-free transmission of audio data. The structure of AES/EBU (especially the user data) is fully adopted by MADI. It is considered a very error-tolerant and resource-saving protocol that is particularly suitable for complex, digital studio projects.
