laser scanning unit: Central component of a CD- Or DVD-Players. The laser scanning unit emits light onto the CD/DVD surface. The pits in the CD are stored differently and reflect the light accordingly. The binary light signals are sent from the laser scanning unit to the photodetector forwarded, where this converts them into binary electrical signals (see Signal) converted.
