Sound: Describes the composition of several tones. These are the fundamental, which determines the pitch, and the overtone, whose spectrum in connection with the fundamental makes up the timbre. The overtones are always in a harmonic relationship to the frequency of the fundamental tone, i.e. they are integer multiples of this tone. The volume of a sound results from the amplitude addition of all partials.
