ID card reader – the most important things at a glance
A personal identification number PIN) is a combination of numbers and letters that uniquely identifies a person. An ID card can be used, for example, to identify yourself to a government agency, to register at work or school, or to shop online. In Germany, the identity card has been mandatory since January 1, 2005.
The identity card is produced by the Bundesdruckerei and is usually valid for 10 years. It costs EUR 28,80 and can be applied for at any registration office. Applying for an identity card is mandatory for every citizen over the age of 16.
