Atx power supplies – the most important things at a glance
ATX power supplies are the power supply devices used in computer cases. There are two main formats of power supplies: ATX and BTX Advanced Technology eXtended and Balanced Technology eXtended. The main differentiator between the two is the shape and size of the motherboard they are installed on. The following table shows the differences between the two formats:

The two most important components of a power supply are the transformer and the bridge rectifier. The transformer converts the input voltage to another voltage, which the bridge rectifier converts to direct current (DC). The bridge rectifier is a circuit consisting of three diodes that convert an AC signal to DC. The three diodes are arranged in such a way that two diodes are always conductive at the same time. The input voltage of the power supply must be higher than the output voltage for the bridge rectifier to work properly.
