tonearm mass: The effective tonearm mass describes the mass of the tonearm to be moved - in practice, however, the total effective mass of the tonearm, headshell, pickup and "fixing material" is decisive. It is measured at the tip of the stylus when the tracking force is zero - i.e. the tonearm is balanced overall. The effective mass is the mass (in grams) that must be moved when scanning - it is not the actual weight of the tonearm/system ensemble!
