laserdisc

laserdisc: The laserdisc, too CD-Video called, is a CD-like storage medium for videos in home use. Since laser discs deliver high quality, they were also used in the professional field. As with the CD or DVD the scanning takes place without contact by a Laser, so there is no wear and tear with this medium either (unlike tapes, records, etc.). Their market launch was in 1978 (at that time under the name "DiscoVision") - today they are almost identical to the DVD (see DVD) or CD. Blu-Ray disc has been displaced.
