sample rate/sampling frequency

sample rate/sampling frequency: When audio signals are digitized (A/D conversion), “samples” are taken from the music signal at short intervals, since not everything can be saved. The sampling frequency thus indicates the number of samples per second. If a device is to transmit up to 20kHz, the sampling rate must be at least 40kHz. For CDs, the sampling frequency is 44.1kHz THAT's at 48kHz, DSR at 32kHz and MiniDisc at 44.1kHz. For digital broadcasting, this means the higher the Data rate, the fewer radio programs fit into one Channel.
