Streaming client

To watch movies, music files (e.g. MP3) or images (e.g. JPEGs) stored on the PC, on the living room TV or living roomstereo-view/listen to the system, there are devices called streaming clients.

Where does the term streaming client come from?

These devices do not store any data, they only forward it as a data stream. Hence the name streaming. You need a server
e.g. B. a PC with appropriate software and are on this one client.

Such a device can be useful if you have the PC somewhere completely different from the TV, but want to watch media files from the PC on the TV.

A streaming client typically has two types of connections:

    • a connection to a PC, usually via a LAN or WLAN

  • a connection to a television, with the usual video and sound connections (SCART, S-Video, video, stereoTon

In addition, it usually has an IR remote control.

How do such streaming clients work:

Software is installed on the PC and then all the directories for the streaming client that you want to see on the TV are released. Via the LAN connection or WLAN connection, you can then view/listen to all the media files in all of these shared directories that the respective streaming client can handle.

Streaming clients are available from about 70 euros (as of the end of 2006).
