Shin Megami Tensei – the most important things at a glance
Shin Megami Tensei is a Japanese video game and manga series developed and published by Atlus. The Shin Megami Tensei series is one of Atlus' many product lines, the other well known ones being the Persona series and the Devil Summoner series. However, Shin Megami Tensei is the oldest and most original series from Atlus.
Shin Megami Tensei is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans must fight demons and other creatures to survive. However, the games in the Shin Megami Tensei series are not typical post-apocalypse games where players just walk around and explore. Instead, they are dungeon crawlers, where players battle through different dungeons, earning experience points and items along the way.
The first Shin Megami Tensei game was released for the Nintendo Famicom (then known as the Super Famicom) in 1987 in Japan. However, it wasn't released in North America for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) until 1994, seven years later. Since then, other games in the Shin Megami Tensei series have been released for various consoles such as the Sega Saturn, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable (PSP), Nintendo DS and Wii U. Some of the games in the Shin Megami Tensei series have also been made available for home computers such as released to PC.
The Shin Megami Tensei series consists of numerous different games, all of which are different. However, there are some similarities between the games. For one thing, the games are all dungeon crawlers, as mentioned earlier. Second, all Shin Megami Tensei games are Japanese role-playing games (JRPGs) in which players control a party with characters accompanying them through the game.
Another important aspect of the Shin Megami Tensei series is collecting and summoning demons. In most Shin Megami Tensei games, players can summon demons by killing them first. Once a demon has been killed, players can then summon it to have in their party. However, the demons in the Shin Megami Tensei games are not just simple monsters that players can kill and summon. Each demon has their own distinct abilities and stats that make them unique.
Another important aspect of the Shin Megami Tensei series is the alignment system. Every Shin Megami Tensei game uses an alignment system that prompts players to make decisions that steer the game in a specific direction. The alignment system also affects what type of demons players can summon.
