SDI

SDI: Serial Digital Interface. Designates a 10-bit interface developed by Sony for the transmission of digital video data. The SDI standard is also called SMPTE 259M (see SMPTE). SDI is common in professional video and studio technology and is used to transfer video and audio signals (see Signal) to be transmitted loss-free over longer distances. Also DVD-Player for the home cinema area can be converted so that they output their data as an SDI data stream.
