Copy protection: Denotes a process that is used for video films, on cassettes, as well as on DVD and Blu-Ray used in different forms to prevent the film industry from copying film titles. However, this often negatively affects the technical quality of the film material. macrovision – a widespread system – can e.g. create restless light stripes at the top edge of the picture. Copy protection procedures work through the interlocking of software and hardware.

Manipulation of the hardware can usually disable copy protection. Good codefree-Converters therefore also remove Macrovision with the code restriction. The copy protection of the DVD, which was believed to be very secure, was cracked in 1999 by a 16-year-old student from Norway. As a result, the entire copy protection system for Dvd audio revised, which led to a delay in the market launch of this technology for more than a year.
