headroom: In the broadest sense, headroom describes a headroom between nominal level and maximum level. Since overdrive in the digital domain leads directly to audible or visible errors (Clipping), the possible recording bandwidth is usually not fully utilized. Instead, you control with a safety reserve. Then comes an unexpected stronger one Signal (see signal), this is still correctly recorded in the headroom without clipping occurring.
