Gamma

Gamma: The luminosity of a picture tube does not correspond linearly to its voltage supply. This non-linearity corresponds to an exponential function called gamma or gamma curve. The gamma correction creates the desired, mostly proportional relationship between the input Signal and projected pixel. The steepness of the associated curve is referred to as the gamma value, i.e. the progression between voltage and luminance or brightness of the picture tube.
