AVCHD

AVCHD: The advanced video Codec High Definition describes a digital recording format for camcorders with recording on digital data carriers. This compression makes it possible to store films on 8cm DVDs or memory cards instead of on cassette tapes due to the smaller space requirement, which opens up new possibilities in the field of HD video recording, especially for camcorders. The video signals are H.264 encoded and then packed into an MPEG2 transport stream. AVCHD supports the usual television standards, such as PAL, NTSC, 720p, 1080 and 1080p.
