The best gaming mice in the test - our purchase recommendations

It wouldn't make sense to use a €5 mouse for a gaming PC that costs over €1000, would it?

The best gaming mice of 2018 in the test
The best gaming mice of 2018 in the test

This is exactly why there are countless manufacturers who want to take your gaming experience to an even higher level with their equipment. The most famous among them are Asus, Logitech, Razer, Corsair and some other companies.

Before we come to the tests of the individual gaming mice, you should know what the difference is to a conventional computer mouse. A gaming mouse can switch between different DPIs, which allows you to adjust the sensitivity without any problems. This allows you to adjust the speed of your mouse exactly to the speed of your game.

In addition, most gaming mice have additional assignable buttons. This is particularly useful if you play a role-playing game, for example. In the game you can then put all your most important skills on the mouse buttons and are always one click ahead of your opponents.

Sounds great doesn't it?

Directly to our purchase recommendations:

Now that that's settled, let's get back to the actual discussion. Today we present you the best gaming mice 2018 currently available on the market.

In case you are wondering why we made this list: The gaming market is simply flooded with many different manufacturers and models. It's not easy to keep track of things without a lot of knowledge. So that you don't have to click through the thousands of mice available on the market to find exactly your desired model, we have taken on this task for you.

Whether you play MMOs, role-playing games, shooters or anything else entirely, you will find exactly the right gaming mouse for you in this top 10 list. We also show you both wired and wireless mice.

Enough with the chatter, let's go straight to the test of the best gaming mice of 2018.

1. Steel Series Reval 700 - The only mouse that vibrates

The first gaming mouse on our list is the SteelSeries Rival 700. The Danish-based company enjoys a high reputation in the professional gaming world. With her well-known and valued Rival series, she has won the hearts of many successful pro gamers.

SteelSeries Rival 700
SteelSeries Rival 700

Before we look at how good this mouse really is, we'll show you a super cool optical feature of this mouse. The Rival 700 is notable for its built-in OLED-Display unique. On this you can then install designs and GIFs specially created for this mouse. So you can design your mouse exactly the way you want it.

If we talk about the technical details, the Rival 700 is a very flexible gaming mouse. In addition to the modifiable design, the RGB lighting and the OLED display, the Rival 700 can have up to 16.000 DPI on the optical sensor and on the Lasersensor can be set up to 8.000 DPI. In addition, you can even replace the sensor.

What we're a little disappointed with is that the mouse doesn't come with an ambidextrous design. So it might not be suitable for left-handers.

However, that doesn't mean the Rival 700 isn't a good mouse. For the comparatively high

For this price you also get a high-quality gaming mouse that knows how to shine in every genre. It will serve you very well as a daily companion.

Our only criticisms are that the mouse isn't designed for left-handers and the extras you buy are quite expensive. Let's shy away from all the pros and cons that the SteelSeries Rival 700 offers.

Pro:

  • Good RGB lighting
  • Innovative modifiable design
  • Cool built-in OLED display
  • Customization according to your wishes
  • Programmable tactical commands for ingame events

cons:

  • No left or ambidextrous use intended
  • Comparatively high price
  • Extra components expensive

2. Asus ROG Spatha - Best MMO Gaming Mouse

Asus surprised everyone by announcing its new flagship model - the ROG Spatha. If you think the name already sounds aggressive, then take a look at the design of the mouse.

Of course, the Spatha belongs to the top elite of the Asus Republic of Gamers brand.

Made from ROG Spatha
Made from ROG Spatha

Together with the extremely large number of features such as additional buttons and RGB effects, the mouse can be connected to other products in the ROG series, such as the motherboard, the graphics card and of course the Asus keyboard.

Before we get into the specifics, you should realize that the Spatha is more than just a gaming mouse. It is a technical masterpiece if you look at the construction. Asus uses a magnesium alloy instead of the traditional materials found in gaming mice. Compared to the competition, it is a rather heavier model and together with the high price, it is mainly aimed at hardcore gamers.

So if you want to know more about the technical details now, you should know that the ROG Spatha is designed with an incredible number of programmable buttons. In addition to that you get a very stylish charger on top.

By now you should have guessed that the mouse also works wirelessly. But the cool thing is that it can do it without input lag. However, if you prefer to use it with a cord, you can use that as well.

Along with the RGB lighting, you get every conceivable feature you would expect from a flagship model. The mouse is equipped with 12 programmable buttons that can be programmed with the Asus Armory software. You also get a maximum of 8.200 DPI, excellent ergonomics and good comfort for long gaming sessions. The main buttons use Omron switches that are designed for a fast click speed. And if they ever wear out, they can still be replaced.

We wouldn't say that the ROG Spatha is "The Perfect Gaming Mouse". Among other things, the buttons on the side feel a little too thin. Still, we think she's one of the top models. Here is a brief summary of the advantages and disadvantages:

Pro:

  • Beautiful and stable design
  • Very many modifications and easy handling
  • Stunning RGB backlight
  • One of the most pleasant mice
  • Additional hardware and software features

cons:

  • One of the most expensive models on the market
  • Side buttons feel squishy/stiff
  • It may be too big and heavy for gamers with small hands

3. Razer Ouroboros - Ambidextrous gaming mouse

The next mouse on our list is the Razer Ouroboros. Razer is probably one of the best-known manufacturers of gaming equipment. So this choice shouldn't come as a surprise to connoisseurs, as Razer's products are just too good to leave out of this list.

This mouse could be named as a direct competitor to the Asus Spatha, but it has been on the market for a little longer. The Ouroboros can also be used both wirelessly and with a cable. In contrast to the Spatha, however, it offers an ambidextrous design, which is not only a good reason to buy for left-handers.

Razer Ouroboros
Razer Ouroboros

It should be remembered that the Ouroboros was made for enthusiasts only. For example, it does not offer features such as RGB lighting. Most likely, however, a successor model with Chroma lighting will come onto the market soon, considering that this model is already comparatively old.

If you're wondering what's in this mouse now, we can tell you, quite a lot! Razer designed this mouse and incorporated a lot of customization options. Most parts of the mouse can either be swapped out or moved around. Even the weight can be changed, which I'm sure many gamers will love. Many of the

Modifications can perfectly adjust the weight or grip of the mouse to your needs.

In addition, the mouse has 11 programmable buttons and high-precision double sensors for even more precise navigation.

This mouse is also not perfect and has some shortcomings. For non-ambitious gamers, the price is probably a bit high, considering that it is a gaming mouse. Gamers looking for a relatively basic mouse might be intimidated by the complexity of the many buttons and customization options.

However, that shouldn't stop you from buying this gaming mouse!

All the pros and cons summarized for you:

Pro:

  • Versatile modifiable, from the reach of the buttons to changing the ball contact
  • Can be used both with and without cable, with cable when charging
  • Ambidextrous design perfect for both left and right handed users
  • Dual sensors ensure precise control during intense gaming sessions
  • Cool design that definitely stands out
  • Good battery life ensures a long gaming experience
  • No input lag when using wirelessly
  • Razer Synapse 2.0 offers a pleasant user interface

cons:

  • High price for a gaming mouse
  • Complex handling through many buttons and modifications

4. Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum - Best Wireless Gaming Mouse

It should come as no surprise that a Logitech mouse also features in the top 10 best gaming mice list.

Whether it's keyboards, speakers or headphones, Logitech is one of the leading companies in the industry. In this context, we don't even just mean the gaming area, but all possible devices that Logitech has brought to the market in its many years of corporate history.

This is precisely why this list would simply be inadequate without mentioning the Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum.

Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum
Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum

Before we get into the specs, you should know that the Logitech G900 is in direct competition with the Asus Spatha and Razer Ouroboros in terms of feature count and price. But this is by no means a bad sign.

So what's so good about the Chaos Spectrum? There is a lot, especially for beginners, the possibility to configure the mouse from 200 to 12.000 DPI is a great advantage. You should know that this is not just a software change, but a static one. In addition, you get the integrated RGB lighting. And the software interface that Logitech is so well known for.

Like the Ouroborus, the Chaos Spectrum can be used both wirelessly and with a cable. It is also designed equally for left- and right-handers.

Keep in mind that this mouse is a flagship model from Logitech and comes at a price. But it also offers a lot of functions. You should consider whether you need them all before you buy them.

You may be wondering where our criticisms are. In fact, we hardly have any. The high price certainly doesn't appeal to every gamer, and the two-handed concept isn't necessarily intended for design fanatics either. Nevertheless, the Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum is one of the best mice you can currently find on the market in terms of performance and functionality. Here is a summary of our pros and cons:

Pro:

  • Beautiful RGB lighting
  • Great intuitive Logitech software
  • Modifiable, as well as programmable keys
  • The Best Performance thanks to brilliant switches and sensors
  • Amazing ambidextrous design for any grip style

cons:

  • A little pricey for budget-minded gamers
  • The design probably won't appeal to everyone
  • Does not come with a charging station

5. Corsair M65 Pro RGB – Best mouse for shooters (max 12.000 DPI)

Corsair's foray into gaming equipment managed to draw attention. In particular, fans of Corsair cases, RAM and power supplies were excited to see what the manufacturer would bring to the table. Believe it or not the push was successful.

With its product range, Corsair has not only launched mice for budget-oriented gamers, but also for high-end gamers. The manufacturer has made sure that the range of functions and the price range do not differ too much between the models.

This means that whether you buy the mid-range K70 or the higher-end K95, you won't have to forego key features. This is not only good for the gamer, but also distinguishes Corsair from most other manufacturers.

Corsair M65 Pro
Corsair M65 Pro

With that in mind, let's take a look at the Corsair M65 Pro RGB, one of the best mice available today. It is therefore aimed at gamers who want to save a little money but do not want to do without the full range of a good gaming mouse.

This mouse, as the name suggests, has integrated RGB lighting, which you can customize to your liking using the included software from Corsair. The software itself is easy to use, although it takes a bit of getting used to. Obviously visible are the buttons to set your DPI as desired. There are also more customizable buttons and changeable weights, so you can make the mouse lighter or heavier as needed. In case you're wondering what that's good for. A lighter mouse is easier to move over the mouse pad, which can be very helpful for first person shooters.

Basically, the M65 Pro is definitely a mouse made for FPS-player was developed. Nevertheless, it can also be used very well for all other genres. This is definitely a plus point of this gaming mouse. Finally, here is an overview of all the positive and negative points.

Pro:

  • Excellent quality, from the cable to the mouse
  • Incredible value for money
  • Flexible Corsair software to customize your custom mouse
  • The DPI speed can even be adjusted in-game using the sniper button

cons:

  • The design may not convince everyone

6. Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum - Highest supported DPI rate

We have a second gaming mouse from Logitech in our list and this time it's the G502 Proteus Spectrum. It is one of the few mice that has ensured that Logitech was able to establish itself in the gaming market.

If you already know Logitech's best-selling mouse, namely the Logitech Proteus Core, you will have noticed that there are hardly any differences to the Proteus Spectrum. The main difference is the Spectrum lighting. While the G900 Chaos Spectrum primarily appeals to high-end gamers with a full wallet, the G502 is the cheaper alternative.

Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum
Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum

Despite the lower price, it offers a lot of features, including changing the sensitivity up to 12.000 DPI.

When it comes to the technical points, not much has changed compared to the original Proteus Spectrum. Only the RGB lighting, which has become standard nowadays and is built into almost all headsets, keyboards and mice, has been added.

There are many positive points this mouse has to offer. It is not only a cheap entry-level model, which costs almost half compared to many flagship models, but also offers a lot of power. Together with the 11 freely programmable buttons, the comfortable and stylish design and the excellent response rate, it is definitely a recommended gaming mouse.

Let's take another look at the pros and cons of this mouse.

Pro:

  • Excellent tracking and sensitivity
  • DPI options range from 200 to 12.000 DPI
  • 11 programmable buttons for personal adjustment
  • Great and practical design
  • Very good value for money

cons:

  • Not designed for left-handers

7. Razer DeathAdder Chroma - Best budget mouse

When Razer originally released the DeathAdder, the mouse took the gaming scene by storm. It quickly became one of the best-selling gaming mice on the market. This is mainly due to its low price. Nevertheless, it offers everything a player needs to gamble.

After Razer released a few more mice, the DeathAdder was sorely missed. Finally, the company decided to release the DeathAdder Chroma.

As RGB lighting has become standard, Razer has developed its own Chroma lighting, which can be controlled with the Razer Synapse 2.0 software. This chroma lighting is certainly one of the best RGB lighting we have seen in gaming mice so far.

Razer DeathAdder Chroma
Razer DeathAdder Chroma

In this context, Razer has revised and renewed everything about the DeathAdder Chroma. And thus made it one of the most impressive mice in the gaming industry. If you are wondering what you get for your money. A great optical sensor is installed, which offers up to 10.000 DPI. And of course you can also control your DPI variably, for example if you want to play with a lower sensitivity.

You also get Razer's Synapse 2.0 software, which is certainly one of the best programs for customizing your mouse exactly the way you want it. The good thing about the Razer DeathAdder Chroma is that the company follows the principle of "Never Change a Running System" and has therefore not made any revolutionary changes, just a few small hardware improvements. And we think it was a great decision.

Simply put, the Razer DeathAdder is the best choice for those who find the Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum, for example, just too fancy. At a glance again all the pros and cons arguments

Pro:

  • Classic and proven design
  • Nice chroma lighting and effects
  • Included Razer Synapse 2.0 one of the best customization software
  • Quality construction
  • Customizable buttons

cons:

  • Hardly any innovations in terms of design

8. Corsair Scimitar RGB - Most programmable buttons

Corsair decided to enter the gaming market and while some thought they would only be there for a short time, the actual plans were slightly different. Meanwhile, Corsair has managed to bring some of the best gaming devices to the market. During this time they were able to build up a large fan base and have constantly expanded their product range.

One of these newer devices is the Corsair Scimitar RGB, which, unlike the M65 Pro, is aimed at the MOBA and MMO community instead of FPS gamers. In this regard, the mouse offers a total of 17 programmable buttons, 12 of which are conveniently located on a slider on the left side of the mouse and are mechanical.

Corsair Scimitar Pro
Corsair Scimitar Pro

Corsair supplies a hex screwdriver that you can use to fine-tune the slider to your exact grip and thumb reach. We are very pleased with the attention to detail Corsair works on its products. The mouse uses an impressive Pixart ADNS 3988 sensor, which is one of the best available today. This supports a maximum DPI of 12.000 and the sensitivity can be adjusted as required.

The mouse is designed for gamers with large hands. All buttons are conveniently placed, respond directly and don't feel spongy. Most of the construction is made of matte and glossy plastic. Only the middle of the mouse is aluminum, which gives the mouse a comfortable weight.

As the name suggests, the Corsair Scimitar has 4-zone RGB lighting that can be controlled with the Corsair Utility Engine. The same software is also used to customize the mouse, such as programming the buttons and assigning the macros.

In terms of performance, the Corsair Scimitar is able to compete against the Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum. Both mice offer something unique and are tailored for different types of gaming. But at their core, they offer almost identical performance as far as the sensor is concerned.

If you're a gamer who doesn't need a lot of macro keys, then the Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum is probably a better choice. However, if you have a big hand and want lots of macro keys to play with, the Corsair Scimitar is our recommendation. Of course, both mice are exceptional in their own way.

Pro:

  • The Pixart sensor ensures brilliant accuracy
  • 17 fully programmable keys perfect for MMO/MOBA games
  • 4 zones RGB lighting can be connected to other Corsair devices
  • Highest built-in quality standards

cons:

  • May be too big and unwieldy for some gamers
  • The thumb buttons are rather a hindrance for someone who doesn't use them

9. Razer Naga Hex V2 - Another mouse for MOBA games

The next mouse on our list is the Razer Naga Hex V2. And before we start with the facts, you should know that this is one of the most revered mice among MOBA gamers. This appreciation is mainly due to the large number of programmable buttons that you can fully customize.

However, you should keep in mind that this mouse is specially designed for MOBA gamers. It is therefore only of limited use in other games. Nevertheless, this mouse is a real highlight for games that require a lot of key combinations. The amazing thumb grid lets you program your shortcuts and then use them in-game with no hassles.

Razer Naga Hex V2
Razer Naga Hex V2

Razer has informed us that the Naga Hex V2 uses thumb-grid mechanical switches, which are said to offer the best possible gaming experience and less wear and tear. This claim has been confirmed in our tests and we are pleased that we have implemented it.

The Naga Hex V2 comes with all the heritage features you'd expect from a top-of-the-line Razer mouse. On board is an excellent optical sensor that delivers up to 16.000 DPI. Chroma RGB lighting is also back, which can be controlled and tweaked through the award-winning Razer Synapse 2.0 software. And yes, there are more features.

You can even customize and program every single button to your exact needs. This is a clear advantage for all gamers who want to get the most out of their mouse.

In this context, we look again at the positive and negative properties of this gaming mouse

Pro:

  • Highly sensitive optical sensor with an impressive 16.000 DPI
  • Fully modifiable buttons
  • Excellent Razer Synapse 2.0 software
  • Very solid processing
  • The thumb buttons use special mechanical switches
  • Gorgeous Razer Chroma lighting

cons:

  • The special design does not appeal to everyone
  • No ambidextrous design

10. Corsair Saber RGB – Affordable FPS Gaming Mouse

The last product on our list is from Corsair again and this time it's the Corsair Saber RGB.

Before we start, you should know that the Saber RGB could be called the younger brother of the Corsair M65 Pro RGB.

While many might be disappointed with the demotion, you shouldn't worry about it. The reason is simple, because the Saber RGB is simply the cheaper alternative. Due to its low price and its own design, it gets its very own identity and that is certainly not a point of criticism. For this price you get a gaming mouse that has an impressive 10.000 DPI and a very good design. In addition, of course, the cool RGB lighting is also on board. Simply put, for this price you get a lot.

Corsair Saber RGB
Corsair Saber RGB

Compared to other gaming mice in our list, it is not a real eye-catcher due to its rather simple design. But that doesn't have to be a bad thing, because the mouse was specially developed for easy and uncomplicated handling and not for a spaced-out look.

So the Saber RGB can simply be on your Desk lie down without disturbing you with their appearance. That's why we also think that this simple design will appeal to even more gamers than perhaps other mice. But if you want a real eye-catcher that you can show off with, this is probably not the right gaming mouse for you.

You should know that this mouse does not have interchangeable weights. But considering the price and the standard weight, which feels good, that won't matter to many. Instead, you get an excellent 10.000 DPI sensor and changeable RGB lighting. This should be enough for most.

As with any other gaming mouse, the Corsair Saber RGB has both advantages and disadvantages. So let's look again at the pros and cons list.

Pro:

  • Excellent sensor with high adjustable sensitivity
  • Programmable keys, can be adjusted exactly to your needs
  • RGB lighting, which can be variably changed by the Corsair Utility Engine
  • Very good value for money

cons:

  • Not everyone will like the design
